Over 10 years in the making, Slatersville: America's First Mill Village is an 11-episode historical documentary series that retraces the two-hundred-year history of the first industrialized mill village in the United States, which is located in the Blackstone Valley of northern Rhode Island. It has been filmed in seven states and the U.K. Slatersville is directed, produced and edited by award-winning filmmaker Christian de Rezendes, a native of the village. The series will educate and entertain a wide range of audiences, from local families in communities throughout southern New England to students of all ages from around the globe.
Season 1 of Slatersville, the first five episodes, will premiere on Rhode Island PBS in the Fall of 2022. See this current schedule for details, or visit www.ripbs.org to stream each episode. All episodes will be accessible for streaming globally, and they will be viewable immediately after each live broadcast. Airdates for Season 2 are to be determined and will be announced at a later time.
CAPTURING AN EPIC STORY THROUGH THE LENS OF TIME
Filming for SLATERSVILLE began in January 2012, though significant video was captured in 2005 and earlier. Since then we have filmed interviews with over 150 people, 26 of whom have passed away. In that time, we have scanned over 12,000 images and uncovered historic materials never before seen by the public, or in some cases, by historians. These incredible discoveries lead to our decision to make Slatersville into a historical documentary series. Over several episodes, SLATERSVILLE will take the audience on an enriching journey from the early days of the Slater Family era to the influence of the Kendall Company's ownership and the saving of the Slatersville Mill 200 years after the founding of the village.
