A HISTORICAL DOCUMENTARY SERIES
Now a decade in the making, Slatersville: America's First Mill Village will be a multi-episode historical documentary series that has been filmed in seven states and the U.K. Its focus is on the two-hundred-year history of the first industrialized mill village in the U.S., in the heart of the Blackstone Valley, located in northern Rhode Island. Slatersville is being directed by award-winning filmmaker and Slatersville native Christian de Rezendes, and will be used to educate and entertain a wide range of audiences, from local families in communities throughout southern New England to students of all ages from around the globe. Slatersville is currently in post-production and will premiere on Rhode Island PBS in the fall of 2022.
CAPTURING AN EPIC STORY THROUGH THE LENS OF TIME
Filming for SLATERSVILLE began in January 2012, though significant video was captured in 2005 and earlier. Since then we have filmed interviews with over 120 people, 21 of whom have passed away. In our gathering of images to tell this two-century-long story, we have uncovered historic materials never before seen by the public, and in some cases, never known by historians. These incredible discoveries lead to our decision to make Slatersville into a historical documentary series. Over several episodes, SLATERSVILLE will take the audience on an enriching journey from the early days of the Slater Family era to the influence of the Kendall Company's ownership and the saving of the Slatersville Mill 200 years after the founding of the village.
